2025 festival

Midsummer Yoga Retreat in the Eastern Algarve, Portugal, 19-24 June 2025

Our residential retreat next summer will be in Portugal to celebrate the summer solstice.

Amidst the natural reserve of Ria Formosa, which stretches along the coast of the Eastern Algarve, Quintamar is situated in an olive and almond orchard less than 30 kilometers away from Faro International Airport. It is an ideal place for our yoga retreat, in unspoilt nature and close to white sandy beaches away from the madding crowd. A refreshing alternative for sea swimming is Quintamar’s 300 square meter biotope. Situated only 500 metres away from the sea.

Accomodation is in fully equipped guest houses and daily brunch and 3 course evening meal are included in the fee for the retreat. Two daily yoga sessions are offered in the morning and evening. During free time, bicycles are available for hire and the historic town of Tavira is nearby with its Moorish architecture and cobbled streets.

Quintamar has also been selected for the fourth year running to be featured in the Alistair Sawday’s site and is published in their highly acclaimed guide book.

Yoga and more...

The Celtic Wheel of the Year is an ancient calendar system that marks the changing seasons and agricultural festivals in Celtic tradition.

It consists of eight festivals, including the fire cross quarter festivals of Samhain, Imbolc, Beltane, and Lughnasadh, which are celebrated throughout the year.

Each of the eight corresponds to a specific point in the cycle and is often marked by rituals, feasting, and other cultural practices. The Wheel of the Year reflects the interconnectedness of nature, spirituality, and community in Celtic beliefs.

In Celtic mythology and spirituality, the Wheel of the Year is also often associated with various gods and goddesses who embody the themes and energies of the different festivals celebrated throughout the year.

For example, Brigid is often honoured during Imbolc -the early stirrings of Spring-for her associations with fire, inspiration, and healing.

Lugh, a god of skill and craftsmanship, is celebrated during Lughnasadh, the first harvest.

These deities and others play a significant role in the myths and rituals surrounding the Celtic Wheel of the Year, reflecting the interconnectedness of nature, spirituality, and the divine in Celtic belief systems.

I can highly recommend Bernadette’s Celtic Wheel of the Year retreats and events. I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to connect with the pivotal changes of each season which they have uniquely provided. In our busy world we can ignore or miss these significant and precise moments which were so important to our ancestors and their understanding and sense of meaning – and which are still so important now.

Bernadette is a very good teacher and her retreats and celebrations honour these stages and turnings of the Celtic Wheel with richly guided yoga practice and sincere and moving ritual. It is wonderful to feel connected to our natural world and the universe in such a profound and healthy way – they are a delight to attend – and lovely to experience with others who share these feelings.

Celtic Wheel events - ′Highly recommended′

“The Celtic Wheel retreats not only offer quality time for self-care with expert guidance, it is also an time of exploration, to fully tune into the energies at that particular point the calendar, time to step out and reflect, reset and return fully prepped for the next half or new season.

Bernadette brings so much love and knowledge to each session that you feel completely held and inspired to continue your own deep connection with the wisdom of the ancestors and this beautiful land.”

Celtic Wheel Retreats - ″Quality time for self care″

I have had the pleasure of participating in several of Bernadette’s workshops at the studio and a residential retreat in Dormansland. I have enjoyed all of these immensely. Bernadette is an extremely knowledgeable guide and teacher. All of these sessions are founded in the best approach to yoga practice enhanced by the focus on the Celtic Wheel. All the sessions are reflective and calming and always leave me feeling thoughtful and relaxed yet invigorated.

Celtic Wheel Yoga

Celtic Wheel Yoga is a more modern yoga practice that draws inspiration from the Celtic Wheel of the Year and incorporates elements of Celtic spirituality and symbolism into yoga sequences and practices.

This approach aligns with the changing seasons and their associated myths and symbols, incorporating themes of either stillness, reflection, rest or renewal, growth and gratitude.

Specially selected sequences, asanas, styles, meditations, yoga nidra, pranayama and rituals are chosen for each festival, which reflect the energy and symbolism of each one. Often included are massage & Reiki.
