Fertility Yoga

Information about Fertility Yoga

This approach to Yoga acknowledges, as a branch of Ayurveda, that “the feet are the wings of the womb”

We also recognise that we are creatures of cycles and rhythms and are effected by the Moon and seasonal changes.

The main aims of Fertility Yoga are to release stress and increase feelings of ease and comfort; to enhance ovarian function (ovaries in connection to neuro endocrine system); to promote and encourage body-mind awareness. Tension held in particular pelvic muscles is eased, again, by specially selected range of yoga asanas and micro movements.

Yoga for Fertility also focuses on practices that promote energetic and blood circulation in the lower abdominal area, encouraging both space, softness and receptivity. Freer circulation improves lymph drainage;  gives a more efficiently completed digestion and enables nerve endings and transmitters to produce and balance hormones. Kidney function is improved as well as pelvic floor tone and optimal placement of the ovaries and uterus by finding a neutral pelvic tilt.

Practices which keep the tailbone tucked under and the belly pulled in are avoided, as this can certainly aggravate female pelvic health concerns.

Instead there is more of a focus on giving this whole pelvic area space-to relax, to be receptive.

There are often subtle practices involved, such as micro movements. In the subtlety, we can find a greater awareness and uncover strength and power.

Mind and body are intrinsically linked. Unresolved grief; working in a highly pressurised, results driven, competitive environment; current lifestyles; over exercising; relationship difficulties. All of these can contribute to fertility challenges. PCO, fibroids, endometriosis; high blood pressure; migraines, back pain, burn out, poor sleep are also able to be addressed.

Yoga also teaches us that we are more than a physical body and thus we also consider subtle energy and include practices to stimulate and bring more conscious awareness to this aspect of ourselves.

Asanas-including both static; restorative and flowing sequences; simple, effective breathing techniques; mudras, bandhas, guided visualisation, quiet awareness and Yoga Nidra are features of these classes. Many of these practices help access the parasympathetic nervous system to reach a state of deep rest and release. Self compassion is promoted and the voice of self criticism and judgement are turned down!

As well as using a variety of gentle, specially created yogic practices, lifestyle and nutrition are also discussed. Massage therapy & Reiki may be included, which can all support.

Sessions can take place in your own home or at studio space in Greenwich or Blackheath. Or via Zoom.

Please see https://peacefulpractice.co.uk/yoga-therapy-one-one-yoga/ for fee schedule.

This is also something I think is great in the fertility classes where you give advice and alternatives of how everyone can access the moves and what to do/not do if for example someone has a sore back.

I find the readings very relaxing too and I always feel great after both sessions.

I love the fact that the equipment needed is very accessible and there’s no pressure to be a Lycra gym bunny with all the perfect gear. A rolled up blanket or towel gives a very friendly and reassuring element to the class where no matter your level it feels achievable.

Overall I really enjoy your classes I have been to several different ones and your classes are the best fit for me. You are very knowledgeable, a calm presence and very reassuring throughout the lessons. I always feel a positive difference afterwards and I am always very relaxed!
